Thalia Arthouse Cinemas | Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen | Lindenpark

For one week every year, the Thalia Cinemas in Postdam-Babelsberg become the center of sehsüchte. All films are screened here and the festival is ceremonially opened here too. Along with the screenings, a number of exciting supporting events will also be held in the rooms of the Arthouse Cinema steeped in tradition. On weeknights, the Thalia foyer will transform into the sehsüchte Lounge.
The Thalia was built back in the 1930s and established itself over time as Potsdam's premiere cinema. After a one year closure, it returned in 1997 as a comfortable art house with four cinemas and 709 seats in all, with Cinema 1 retaining its proportions and extensively restored. The architectural highlight is the large glass ceiling over the foyer and a museum quality, restored film projector that can be used to project short films and clips onto the wall after dark. Victuals are provided at the attached cinema restaurant KONSUM.
More information on the cinema is available at: www.thalia-potsdam.de
Directions:
It is best to take the S-Bahn (commuter train, lines S7) to Babelsberg S-Bahnhof (commuter train station). From there, Thalia is only a short walk away. If you are coming with the streetcar, take line 94 to “S-Babelsberg/Wattstrasse”. Various buses also stop in the vicinity: e.g. at “Rathaus Babelsberg” (lines 690 and 693). All the bus stops are only around a 3 - 5 minute walk away from Thalia. If you end up hanging around longer after the movies, everything gets easier: The night bus lines N 15, N16 and N17 stop at S-Bahnhof Babelsberg/Schulstraße near the movie theater.

sehsüchte’s heart beats at the academy where the festival office is located and the kick-off is celebrated every year with the big sehsüchte-Opening Gala. After the Awards Ceremony the sehsüchte team celebrates the end of an entertaining week with all winners and international guests.
Directions:
Take the S-Bahn (commuter train, line S7) to the “S-Bahnhof Griebnitzsee” (commuter train station). From there, you can either walk 15 minutes or take bus line 696 for two stations to “Dianastr./August-Bebelstr.” and then cut through the Babelsberg studio grounds (about a 5 minute walk). It’s faster to take the regional train RE from Berlin headed for “Belzig/Dessau” to the “Medienstadt Babelsberg” train station. From there, you can also either take bus 696 (headed for “Griebnitzsee”) to “Dianastr./August-Bebelstr.” or – what is an even better idea – simply walk (about a 10 minute walk).
